Can Heat-Pump Air Conditioning Stand Up To The Rigors Of A North Carolina Summer?

Southern summers can prove brutal. As temperatures soar, the humidity levels rise making it feel even hotter than it really is. Muggy, sticky heat gets uncomfortable quickly. If you live in a climate such as the Triangle area of NC, you need an air conditioning system that is a real workhorse.

Actually, a heat pump style HVAC system may be just the thing. There are actually many varieties of heat pump system available to consumers. While a traditional heat pump is designed with moderate cooling and heating climates in mind, other heat pumps are perfect for more extreme weather conditions, including sweltering summers.

The most common type of heat pump are air source heat pumps. If you use electricity as your power source, this type of cooling system can shave a good 30-40% off of your electricity bills each month. An added bonus is that this type of heat pump also works well to dehumidify better than traditional air conditioning systems, which results in more comfortable coolness arrived at through greater efficiency.

If you live in an area that requires even greater efficiency, due to a more extreme climate, a geothermal heat pump makes a great choice. These types of heat pumps operate by transferring between your home to the ground or a nearby water source. While geothermal heat pumps cost a bit more at the onset, they are more cost effective to operate and can save you quite a bit of money in  energy use over the years. Customer satisfaction in warm or hot climates is extremely high with this type of cooling system in place.

The newest types of heat pumps are absorption heat pumps, also known as gas-fired heat pumps, these systems use heat as their source of energy. What’s nice about these heat pumps is that they can operate using a variety of heat sources.
